MIV delivery to Foyers
Since 2011 KGAL’s hydro projects team has been working with SSE to replace the two Main Inlet Valves at Foyers power station on the shores of Loch Ness.
The original MIVs were commissioned in 1974 at the time of the pump storage station inauguration. The new valves exceed the capacity of the original station crane, so the first phase of the project necessitated upgrading the crane to enable lifting the 93T valves.
KGAL has managed the project through the design, manufacture and delivery stages and provided valuable planning and coordination of the site instalment and testing.
During October 2014 both MIVs were put into service following successful commissioning by Voith.
