Songwe River Basin dam design review

By generating hydropower, increasing the access to water supplies, reducing the frequency of floods and increasing crop yields, the Songwe River Basin project is designed to benefit Tanzania and Malawi through economic growth, improved health, reduced poverty and enhanced food and energy security.

The development scheme anticipates three dams of which the first (along with tunnels and underground powerhouse) is being designed by Lahmeyer. KGAL is one of three independent experts appointed by the World Bank to review the hydro-mechanical elements of the design.
